How to makeover a Welsh dresser using Annie Sloan paint in Paris Grey

July 27, 2015

I recently bought a gorgeous Welsh dresser from eBay. I've always wanted one to put in my sewing room so I can keep all my buttons, ribbons, pins etc.. on it.

When I bought this pre-loved item, I thought I would paint it. A bit daunting I hear you say. Well let me tell you, it was easy-peasy!

I am quite an impatient person  and don't have much time, I like to do quick projects.

So after watching Annie Sloan and lots of YouTube tutorials, I decided to find my local supplier of Annie Sloan paint. You can't buy the paint in big superstores, it's sold in little independent shops, which I like. I like to support local businesses. My local store was so helpful. I chose the Paris Grey colour, they are all beautiful with 33 colours to choose from.

Find your local supplier here..

Annie Sloan has come up with this brilliant Chalk Paint. It's so easy to use. Here's how I did it.

What you need:

Annie Sloan paint of your choice, mine is Paris Grey - £18.95 for 1 litre (I used less than one litre on this whole dresser)
Annie Sloan Pure Bristles Brushes - Large 26.5cm x 6.5cm £28.95 (there are 3 sizes to choose from depending on your project)
Annie Sloan Soft Wax - 500ml £8.45 (Clear)
A soft cloth (I didn't buy a special cloth, I actually used some of my husband's old Calvin Klein boxers!
New handles (if you want to change them)

Step one..

Wipe out the item you want to paint, just make sure all the dust has gone.

Step two..

Grab your brush, dip it in the paint, and off you go! I told you it wasn't difficult!

The paint starts to dry in about half an hour, so by the time I had got to the end, the first part was already dry. The great thing about this paint as there's hardly any smell!

Annie Sloan paint I used was in Paris Grey. There are 33 colours to choose from.

Step three..

Leave to dry fully, I left it overnight just to make sure.

Step four..

With your soft cloth, rub the clear wax on to all the painted surfaces, get in all the nooks and crannies.

Very proud of my finished project. If I can do it, so can you!

Step five..

Step back and admire your handy work. People will be amazed thinking it took you days to do. In actual fact, this whole project took me about 4 hours, start to finish including painting the drawers.

The vintage handles I bought. A nice little finishing touch.

A nice little touch was to buy some lovely vintage handles, they just finished it off nicely.

The paint gives a lovely finish.

I'd love to know if you have used Annie Sloan paint and what you thought. Leave me a comment below. Happy painting!
