It's World Book Day today and the lovely people at Ladybird have published a wonderful new book. Ladybird by Design by Lawrence Zeegan.

I love Ladybird books and have such fond memories of my childhood reading them. Especially the 606d collection, most of which I still have, a treasured possession to share with my children.

Among my favourites are, The Elves and the Shoemaker, The Three Billy-Goats Gruff, and Snow-White and Rose-Red.

I was, and still am taken by the wonderful way these stories were illustrated. And every single image is still in my memory. When I see one of the pages I haven't seen for over 30 years, it's like I saw it yesterday!

This wonderful book celebrating 100 years of Ladybird, shows how fantastic this publisher has been over the years.

Starting in 1915, the Ladybird logo was registered by Loughborough printer Wills & Hepworth, who used the downtime on their printers to produce wholesome illustrated books for children.

Ladybird by Design shows rare photographs and beautiful images, and it explores their editorial and production origins, design, typography and illustration.

Not only storybooks, Ladybird have produced many educational books along the way, and wherever you see that little logo, you know it's going to be a great read for your child.
