Vlog series with Internet Matters: What to do if my child is being cyberbullied

November 16, 2016

We have teamed up with Internet Matters to help parents keep our children safe while they are online.

Cyberbullying is when someone bullies others using electronic means. This can happen via text, email, on social media networks and gaming platforms.

Cyberbullying is now more common than face-to-face bullying among 9-16 year olds.
One in five 13-18 year-olds claim to have experienced it.

This can be a subject that your child finds difficult to speak about. Encourage them to talk to you if they feel they are being bullied.

Take it seriously, don't stop them going online as taking away their devices can make it worse. Don't retaliate, advise your child not to reply.

Keep the evidence by saving the messages or take a screenshot. It can be difficult to find out who is doing the bullying as things can be posted anonymously.

Block and report the bullies.

Support your child, be calm and tell them they are not alone and you will help them get through it and praise them for talking to you.

In this video I talk to you about what to do if your child is being cyberbullied.
